Re-evaluation of sucralose (E 955) as a food additive and evaluation of a new application on extension of use of sucralose (E 955) in fine bakery wares
Date of Publication: 2026
The European Food Safety Authority’s 2026 scientific opinion re-evaluating the sweetener sucralose (E 955). The Panel kept the acceptable daily intake at 15 mg/kg body weight per day and found no safety concern at current use levels, but could not rule out the formation of potentially harmful chlorinated compounds when sucralose is heated to high temperatures, as in baking. Discussed in our blog post on whether sucralose (Splenda) is bad for you. Licence: CC BY-ND 4.0.
